December 17, 1938

This story "Sallie Smith" is about a women talking about how she makes a living by going to like an open market fruit stand type of things. She talks about how she plans all year for this and how she takes care of her graden and how it was the busiest time right now due to christmas being right around the cornor. She seems to be very excited to go and work at the market. She talks about how she sees the difference in when women and men shop, men will see what they like, get it, and then move one. Where as the women have to try and go around and find the best price for whatever it is that they are looking for. She talks about how she gets to the market and how much she has to pay for her ride. After she told all about the market she started to tell about her life story. She is a 60 year old widow with children. She tells how her mother died soon after she was born and talks about her fathers affairs. She then goes on to talk about running away to get married and raising her four little girls.
I think that this interview was pretty interesting atually. It talked about how not everything was bad during these times. Sometimes good things did come along. And when they did, people were very grateful. You could tell that this Sallie Smith was very happy with her life and im pretty sure that she wouldn't go back and change anything if she had the chance

LOOKING AROUND WITH A HAY FARMER
By Luther Clark

This interview tells the story of a man who had owned a farm. But due to in injury on his feet he could no longer work the feilds. He talks about how he can even get down into town to hear the news or anythings. He had to rent his land out to his only son, Frank. He talks about how crops are bad this year and most people can't get to much to grow. The only people doing any good were the ones who owned cows...apparently his son had a cow so he was going to be good? He talks about how there was like some new buisness opening up were they are going to take all the hands and put them to work up on the big road and pay them 2 dollors a day. He says the crops won't be finished when they start this work so they will go unfarmed.
This interview confussed me and didn't make any sense to me. The guy who was being interview was just kind of rambling about different things and how hes mad about stuff and his feet hurt. And then the person doing the interview went in to explaining the job the men were egoing to be put on to. This only threw me off even more.
